In the heart-pounding universe of CBS’s S.W.A.T., every mission is a high-stakes dance with danger, and every character brings a unique blend of skill, dedication, and personal struggle to the team.
Among these heroes stands Sergeant II David “Deacon” Kay, a seasoned warrior in the fight against crime, whose journey of loyalty, leadership, and sacrifice has attracted audiences season after season.
Join us as we explore the layers of Deacon, and uncover what the final season holds for this indispensable member of the S.W.A.T. family.
Who is Deacon in SWAT?
47-year-old Los Angeles Police Department S.W.A.T. veteran Sergeant II David “Deacon” Kay has served in S.W.A.T. for ten years. In Hondo’s absence, he acts as the team’s interim commander and second-in-command.
In a clear attempt to defuse tensions between the community and the LAPD, Deacon was passed up for promotion to team leader in favor of Hondo at the beginning of the series, despite his seniority.
This occurred after Sergeant Buck Spivey was fired. Deacon and his spouse, Annie, celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary in 2018. Deacon is one of the two team members who is married and has kids.
Is Deacon leaving SWAT?
No, Deacon is not leaving SWAT. Shemar Moore and Jay Harrington, two of the numerous actors who have played key roles in the series since its premiere, serve as the show’s leaders for season seven of S.W.A.T.
Despite the fact that S.W.A.T. will return for a seventh and final season, a number of the main cast members—who viewers have come to love from Season 1—will not be returning for all of the forthcoming episodes and will instead be departing the program early.
After six seasons, CBS chose to discontinue S.W.A.T., but it swiftly changed its mind and approved Season 7. But along with the news that the program will return, it was confirmed that this 13-episode run would be the last set of episodes.
Season after season, viewers of S.W.A.T. have been fortunate enough to have many of their favorite performers and characters return; although, on occasion, some have had to depart, like Chris Alonso, played by Lina Esco.
Since Season 1, one of S.W.A.T.’s primary characters has been Dominique Luca, played by Kenny Johnson. Fans don’t need to be concerned that they won’t see him again because Season 7 will still have a significant appearance from him.
Nevertheless, the performer’s position was reduced from series regular to recurring. Similar to Kenny Johnson, Alex Russell was demoted from series regular to recurring in his official S.W.A.T. role.
Russell, who plays Jim Street, is another actor who has been in almost every S.W.A.T. episode. However, viewers won’t see him as much in the 13 remaining episodes of the program.
Following the Season 6 conclusion of S.W.A.T., Lina Esco said goodbye to the show, leaving a lot of fans sad. Many people wanted to see Chris Alonso’s tale go on since she and Alex Russell’s character, Jim Street, were close.
Esco, however, made the decision to leave the program in order to explore other opportunities, although her character continued to have a significant off-screen presence in Season 6.
