Alaska, The Last Frontier is an American reality cable television series that premiered on December 29, 2011, on Discovery Channel. The show follows the extended Kilcher family, descendants of Swiss immigrants and Alaskan pioneers Yule and Ruth Kilcher, on their homestead 11 miles outside of Homer.
By foregoing modern heating, the clan chooses to survive by farming, hunting, and preparing for the long winters. The Kilcher family is related to the singer Jewel (Atz is her father), who has appeared on the show.
The production company paid a penalty for hunting violations
Several laws in each state govern when, where, and how bears can be hunted, but it appears that the Kilcher family was either unaware of these laws or completely ignored them when they took to the air to take out a black bear.
Hunting from a helicopter is illegal in Alaska, and the family was charged after they recorded footage and a former member of the production company informed Alaska State Troopers.
Wilma TV Inc., a subsidiary of Discovery, was also charged with hunting violations, as were Atz and Cristina Kilcher. The charges were dropped as part of a settlement that included a $17,500 fine.
Filming in Alaska is popular because of the tax credit policy
Alaska, The Last Frontier is one of twenty reality TV shows set and filmed in the 49th state. This is due in part to a tax credit policy established in response to another popular series, Deadliest Catch.
At the time, it was believed that establishing a tax credit would bring more jobs to the state, but instead, out-of-state film crews arrived to take advantage. As a result, Alaskan Women Looking for Love, the popular Alaskan Bush People, and several fish-out-of-water shows have emerged.
What happened to Alaska, the Last Frontier?
Otto Kilcher from “Alaska, The Last Frontier” was hospitalized after being trampled by a cow during a snowstorm. He sustained punctured lungs, broken ribs and arms, a fractured shoulder, and other injuries.
Despite multiple surgeries and complications, including blood clots, Otto is recovering but will have lingering effects. Whether he’ll return for the show’s 12th season is uncertain.
In the out-of-control universe of unscripted television, where each episode is a rollercoaster ride of show and risk, Alaska, The Last Frontier stands apart as a genuine adrenaline rush.
What’s more, among the brilliant cast of characters that make up the Kilcher family, there’s none very like Otto Kilcher. Yet, even the hardest-working people aren’t resistant to life’s curves, and Otto ended up amidst his very own wild ride.
While exploring a slippery blizzard in the unforgiving Alaskan winter, Otto experienced an enemy more imposing than any he’d looked at previously.
Furthermore, although his way to recuperation was slow and difficult, Otto became successful. While he might, in any case, bear the scars of his nerve-racking trial, he’s alive, flourishing, and prepared to take on anything that challenges Alaska, The Last Frontier tosses his direction.
Concerning whether Otto will make a victorious re-visitation of the little screen for the twelfth time in Alaska, The Last Frontier, the truth will surface at some point. Otto Kilcher’s story is not even close to finished, and fans will be enthusiastically anticipating his next experience.
